How do your employees feel about their work?

by admin on July 5, 2007

One thing I learned from my high school guidance councilor still rings through today. There are those people who have jobs and those people who have careers.

The people who have jobs tend to get up from their bed, put on their pants one leg at a time, take care of their morning routine, go into their work and perform a task for 8-10 hours/day. They come home and get their paycheck and the cycle begins again. Often times, they don’t feel fulfilled at work, they’re in a position which isn’t conducive to their desires or they’re overworked and under focused. These people have jobs, and it’s a drain on them.

Then there are people who have careers. These folks get out of bed each day and put their pants on the same way that those with jobs do, but that’s where the similarity ends. They go to work and feel empowered by their positions. They work with like minded people in a position that fits their mindset and skillset. They make a difference both to their coworkers and their customers. They go above and beyond. They find good ideas in every day and are constantly improving the quality of their work and the work around them.

What separates these two groups of people? Attitude! Anyone in any position can have a career. I know hourly line employees that have careers, just as I know executives who have jobs. It’s all in how your perceive your value and what you’re willing to do to be the best at what you do.

For those who want to be the best and show it off, we’ve developed the QD101 Quality Process 2″ Round decal. This red and white decal is a bold statement of “YOU BET I DO GOOD WORK”. It’s a reminder to everyone around them that they are proud of their career and take pride in the quality of their position.
